As most of my blog posts start, long time no blog post. Although, if we're being honest I am in awe and applaud all of the girls out there that balance school, sorority, student organizations, a social life and still at the end of the day, write about their thoughts. That is one thing that I learned a lot about this year, finding time for you is hard. Also, freshman 15 is real and if it isn't than you're one of the lucky few that could resist the curly fries at the dining hall. ;-)
I guess in this blog post, I wanted to talk about my experience from my freshman year. First of all, I never realized how much I love to be home than when I moved to college and stayed in college. (However, I will say, I never did ANY of my homework when I would go home during both semesters, so going home meant having a break.) While I miss my home, there are always moments that I am in this town and saying "let's do this more often." For example, things as easy as going on 3 mile walks during the sunset, or driving and getting lost but refusing to use a map because "we live here, we should know," or my favorite "how did I not know that this place meal traded?!" Learning about a new place and new people, is so beautiful.
Another important lesson that I have learned thus far is that you may make good guy friends and you may not. Same goes for girls, you may make great girl friends and you may not. I think this was something I struggled with the most in college. Every conversation seemed so superficial, I hated that every time you see someone its the standard "hey, how are you?" or just a simple "hey" then run past them because you're both going to class. BUT, I met really really great gal pals ;-). Seriously though, I am so thankful for the friends that college has brought me, all of us don't have many guy friends but we all are so ok with that, so woo girl power.
MOST IMPORTANTLY, Comparison is the thief of joy. Really. With being a freshman brings so many insecurities, this is the time that you learn so much about yourself. You learn about who you want to be and what you don't want to be, which mistakes you're ok with making again and which ones you'll regret the most. But also, what totally stinks is that you really will compare yourself to other people: their relationships, their body, their life. It's sad because we live in a world and generation that its right at our fingertips too. However, what I have being trying to do is just post photos for me, post things that make me happy, and always look for the positive in both others but also myself. I know that a lot of people say to not be selfish, but when you need to, compliment yourself or be proud of yourself every once and a while, that is allowed.
Overall, I learned so much freshman year about myself and I know that that is something to be proud of.
Till next Time
